Mediums:
Soft pastels: Such as Rembrandt pastels. A set of 15, half-stick, is a
good starter. Under $25.
Papers:
A simple sketch pad, small.
10-12 sheets of
dark-colored pastel paper, such as Canson, Tiziano, or Strathmore, @
18x24"
Glassine paper, an acid-free paper to protect your charcoal and pastel drawings
from being damaged.
Tools:
Drawing board, at least 20x26", or a cardboard portfolio. I
use a cardboard portfolio as both my drawing board
and to store my paper and finished drawings.
Metal clips or drafting tape to hold the paper in place.
Portable easel or stool.
