San Luis Potosi, Again!
Plein Air Painting

Five-Day Workshop in San Luis, Mexico
 with Michael Newberry

Wednesday July 14 - Tuesday 20, 2010

9 am - 4 pm

Newberry, Tres Senores, 2008, oil on panel, 12 x 9 inches (demo)

The experience I had at Michael Newberry's Plein Air Painting workshop in San Luis Potosi, Mexico was phenomenal .  The accommodations were beautiful, each day was filled with delicious food, gorgeous views, and excellent instruction.  By the end of the week, all of the participants knew each other well and were sad to say good-bye.  I returned home with a collection of Mexican landscape paintings that I was able to share and be proud of.  This was the perfect balance of work and fun.  Now when I gaze at a landscape, I think about painting it!  I fell in love with San Luis Potosi and hope to return someday.  Michael Newberry taught me to see the outdoors as an artist.

Fact Sheet

Our host: Mary Woodul is a long time artist. She spends her time painting and with family, and going between her home in San Luis Potosi and her ranch out of town. The ranch is where we and Mary will be staying for the duration of the workshop. She is fluent in English and Spanish, and was educated in the States.

Day 1 Wednesday July 14: We fly into San Luis Potosi by mid day. And will be driven to the ranch about 40 minutes away. And settle in.

Thursday July 15 thru Monday July 19 we start early with coffee, juice and a real breakfast and start painting by 9 am at an outdoor location on the estate. Its a high desert valley surrounded by low lying mountains. Lunch. And then, we paint again from 2-5 pm. Freshen up, and then have drinks, dinner.

Each day Michael Newberry will give a demo with clear agenda for the techniques to accomplish. Throughout the day he will give tips, encouragement, and praise. At the end of the day's work he will guide a friendly critique session with the group.

Tuesday July 20 we depart the ranch after breakfast and go to the San Luis Potosi Airport and fly out.
