Draw the expressive portrait through form, shadow, and simple anatomy
with artist Michael Newberry, March 20-21, 2010. Artists will experience:

11 hours drawing an male and female portraits in a spacious and comfortable studio setting in Santa Monica
Personal instruction with Michael Newberry, showing you how he approaches portrait drawing
Programmed for beginner through advanced artists
Learn unique and essential portrait drawing techniques that enhance confidence, precision, and freedom
Demos presented in stages, and explained in a clear manner
Covers symmetry, simple anatomy, and expressive drawing
Close to the Santa Monica Promenade, with several shops and eateries
Michael will recommend the right materials for the right job
Questions about the process encouraged

Figure Drawing Materials List:

Newsprint for quick sketches;
Some good paper for longer poses, such as Rives BFK (about $4 a sheet, great stuff)
Soft charcoal pencils 6B's, and conte for the quick sketches.
Kneaded eraser.
An easel (if you want to stand);
And a drawing board or a cardboard portfolio (which also holds the paper.)
A blank notebook, like the black bound cansons book.
